So I have been following this forum for a while now, but have yet to post anything. Well, the other day I began filling out the 2012-2013 application for PTCAS and discovered that you can only submit 4 LORs. Why is that?

To say the least, I'm really ticked because I have been accumulating LORs for a while now and I don't know which ones to choose from (mostly because I have waived the right to read them). So is that it? Do I only get to send in 4 LORs? Or can I get around this somehow ? =(

Any input?

This is from the PTCAS FAQ's on LOR's:

"A: PTCAS only allows applicants to list 4 references on the application. If you need to have additional references, please e-mail [email protected] and request a blank paper reference form to provid to any additional references. These additional reference forms must be sent directly to the program requiring that reference and NOT to PTCAS."

So, apparently you can have more that 4 references but number 5 onward must be a paper reference and sent directly to the programs you're applying to.

Do most schools accept more than 4 LORs? Or do they just look at the ones that PTCAS sends them?

Basically, should I waste my time doing this?

Most schools have a set limit on how many letters they will look at. You will have to check each of the schools you want to apply to individually. I had the same question last year and a professor (who was a prior UoPac) adcomm, recommend that I placed myself in the adcomm's position. If you have 300+ applications to look at, how many LORs would you want to read? Of course, that's just one view. Good luck!

Thanks for your response! I am definitely going to check up on each program and what they will accept. I wish I knew this earlier though... =/

Agreed, That was going to be my reason for the 4 LOR limit. Who wants to read all that..........
