Hey guys.

I know that you all are probably tired of listing your stats. But I need so encouragement. Can anone list their application stats where they got in, but fell into the "underdog" or "slim chance" category and who still got accepted into vet school. I really screwed up my sophomore year in college, and have had some bummers since then too. I still want to get into vet school, I decided it was my calling after getting a job at PetSmart last summer. I'm working on my experience ( I have none!!, and plan to become a certified vet assistant during my last year at NC State, taking a gap year off). I just want some of you how have prevailed despite the odds against you to show me some of your stats, to give me a boost in confidence. And congrats to all who made it!!!!!!!:luck:

You should read the successful applicant thread. Twelvetigers will post the link shortly.

There was a few of us who beat the odds, but everyone's situation is unique. Post up your stats and we might be able to offer some advice.

To be fair a bad GPA after 4 years as a "pre-vet" major is going to be a much bigger problem to address than a bad GPA after 4 years as any other major.

I don't know that I would agree with the GPA comment. A bad gpa is a bad gpa, no matter the major. It looks a little better if you took really challenging classes, and/or if you have an upward trend.

My point was that if you graduated with a 2.5 in a non science major, you could bring it up in the process of taking all of your pre-reqs. There is an easy 40 credits or so one needs to take to finish their pre-reqs if they arnt included in their major.

On the other hand if you graduate as a pre-vet with all your prereqs done and a 2.5, you don't still have all of those classes to take to help bring your GPA back up.

I think 1/3 of our class is non-trad (I am defining that as being out of school and working a real job, rather than volunteering while someone else pays the bills) ranging in age from 23 to 39, with most of us graduating several years ago, but a few who returned to undergrad FT, completed a degree, then entered vet school. I really like it...it gives the class a good variety....though apparently NCSU selects heavily for diversity in a variety of dimensions.
