Hi,

I'd like to know if anyone here has applied to; is applying to; is doing residency at; or has done residency at any of the Boston programs (and more importantly what you think/thought of them). I know MEEI has a fab rep, but I'm also interested in BU/Tufts. More to the point, I'm interested in first hand experiences with these programs (not just the opinion passed down over time the MEEI rocks - that's only so helpful....).

Things like: quality/volume/type of clinical training/experience; research opportunities; how they treat residents; overall character of programs are of particular interest.

Thanks,
P

PS - as a general point, how close does one usually need to live to the hospital? Is there a limit in order to take call from home? Just curious because if I were to match at MEEI (I know, "IF"), I'd have to live in New Hampshire to afford it. 🙄

Thanks again,
P

I applied to MEEI and liked the program. Academically it's a strong program; however, surgically, the numbers are really, really low. When I interviewed there, the residents performed about 50-80 cataracts. These are low numbers considering UTAH grads perform over 200 and Iowa grads complete 150-200 cataracts.

If you have a family, Boston is simply out of the question. It's outrageously expensive.
