Do you guys know of any website that rank DO school and give a break down of the GPA and MCAT scores of matriculants? Also, For those UNECOM experts...how hard or stingent are the standards to get in there. I have a 3.1 undergrad and 3.9 Grad in pathology, but a 21 MCAT. Loads of experience in a hospital setting. Can get good ROL from some well known Yale professors. Any advice?
I love you guys,
Drsean

dr-,

In general, I strongly would suggest that you take the MCAT over again. A 21 is sorta low. I didn't interview at UNECOM but interviewed at a number of D.O. schools. Try to shoot for around 26 to be safe. U.S. News Graduate schools ranks D.O. schools and gpa. That should help you out.

I agree with wsu. You might be able to get in with a 21, but it would be pretty difficult.

I've never seen a ranking from top to bottom of DO schools (there isn't a lot of difference between most of them anyway), but US News and World Report has a listing of graduate schools and they list all the DO schools with the average accepted GPA's and MCAT scores.

Here's a website that might help:

<a href="http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/med/medindex.htm" target="_blank">http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/rankings/med/medindex.htm</a>

Good luck!

Drsean,
This site has GPA and MCAT of matriculants for allopathic and Osteopathic schools.

Those numbers look a bit old and unreliable for the above website as it was last updated in 1996!!

Get a copy of Barrons or Princeton Reviews med school guide. It is more current. You really wont find a website with a ranking of DO schools because most of them are young and as a result havent had a chance to establish enough of a reputation yet.

I'm a second year-to-be at NYCOM and I know we average around a 25 MCAT and 3.5 gpa these days. They get about 1600 applications, interview around 500 and accept around 425 for a class of 300. I had a 30 MCAT and 3.2 gpa and got into all the DO schools I applied to. Definitely take the MCAT again and try to aim for the mid to upper 20's. You wont have a worry then.

drsean,
I think that the American Osteopathic Assoc. puts out a book you can order; otherwise it may be the American Association of Osteopathic Medical Colleges. One of them does. Good luck!!! Also, I'm sure that your hospital experience may outweigh you low MCATS. It is worth a try. Just get in the apps early. I sent in my apps in May, was invited to interview in August and had my acceptances by early October. PM me if you have and questions!
