So I am planning on applying this cycle and am planning on taking the MCAT August 7th. I need College Physics II and Orgo II to finish out my pre reqs and am currently enrolled in Physics II for the summer session. The problem is, I am TERRIBLE at Physics. I'd prefer to take it in the fall with OChem so the pace is slower, but will this look bad to adcoms and will schools be alright with it? Not taking it in the summer will give me more time to prepare for the MCAT as well. Between MCAT studying, stressing out about physics, and volunteering, my life is busy. The MCAT studying isn't the bad part. Physics just mentally stresses me out. I could really just use some advice. Can I put it off, or should I just suck it up and get it done? @Goro any advice?

For the record, everything else is good to go. I have 3 LORs from professors, and LOR from a DO, and good EC's/volunteering experience.

Are you sure you will do well on the MCAT without learning Physics II and Orgo II?

They cover a very small amount, and I can learn whatever I need to know for the MCAT. I'm not worried about that part (I know the topics covered). It's the actual class in 8 weeks that bothers me.

So you're terrible at physics, but you want to go ahead and take the MCAT without finishing the second half of the required physics for pre-med students?

Where's the knowledge for critical assessment on what will suit you? I do not think this would be a smart decision and it may reflect poorly on your application if you do not do well.

That's a solid point. When I say terrible, I mean I had to bust my behind in the fall to get a B. It just consumes a lot of my time......

Hm. I'm confused too. If you're so bad at physics...I would think solving that problem would come before sitting for perhaps the most important test in your UG career

I would take physics since it's on the MCAT. I didn't take Physics II prior to taking the MCAT and feel as though it hurt my score in that section. I was in the same boat as you and hated/was awful at physics as well. Best of luck.

Think of this as a marathon, not a sprint to the finish-line. I'm assuming your a young and traditional student.

Take your time, do well, and travel down a more intellectual way towards the goal of your dreams: being a physician.

I actually disagree with the common sentiment here. Physics, as far as the MCAT is concerned, isn't covered at great depth (New MCAT), and a college level class will not make or break you. Same can be said for orgo. Everything on the MCAT can more or less be learned independently. I'd recommend taking no classes in the summer and just spending that time preparing for the MCAT.

Physics killed me on the MCAT and took me from an "average score" to a below average one. I got a B- in my physics classes (lowest science grade I had) and it showed on my MCAT. I believe it severely limited some of my opportunities. Take that section seriously - although I know the "new" MCAT will have it a little different. I'm not entirely sure how relevant some of the more obscure things you "need to know" in elementary physics are to medicine, but it's a point of contention just like any other.
