I would only consider DO schools as true "safety schools." Even at MD schools with lower accepted medians you might get yield protected or might not fit the mission so I wouldn't say they are true safeties. Your numbers are excellent, if you have ECs to match then you are a rockstar, aim high.

With your stats, I don't think you have to apply for that many schools. I'd remove CA Northstate, Albany, Iowa, Loma Linda (mission-based), Eastern Virginia, and UCLA Drew (mission-based). I'd add in Cincinn, Hopkins, and Yale.

Yeah there is absolutely no reason to apply to CNu with a 3.9/519. Agree with these additions OP. Maybe think about Ohio State and get rid of NYMC.

This is rather anecdotal evidence, but there were plenty of CA residents at the SUNYs I interviewed at, and I think they're relatively OOS-friendly, as far as state schools go. They also offer IS-tuition after one year. You may want to check out SUNY Downstate and Stony Brook.

I would not apply to Drew unless you're dedicated to underserved communities. Wish you the best on your cycle though! 🙂

My first recommendation: this should have been in WAMC so I'll move it there. Please read the stickies.

In terms of your school list, you need to overhaul it a bit.

You should be applying to the following schools:

1. All CA schools except CNU and UCR (Stanford, UCLA, UCSF, UCSD, UCD, UCI, USC-Keck)
2. Top 20 schools except University of Washington and Baylor (~15 total not counting UCSF, Stanford, UCLA, UCSD)
3. A few mid-tier schools (USC-Keck for sure, likely Rochester and Einstein, probably Hofstra and Emory)
4. Your undergrad's med school

That's 27 schools which is a very safe amount for strong CA applicants

Of your list, I suggest the following. For safeties, I suggest BU, Emory, U Miami, Tulane, Jefferson, U AZ (maybe), Rochester, Hofstra, SLU, and Western or Touro-CA...You DID ask for safeties!

Boston
Case Western
Chicago-Pritzker
Columbia
Cornell-Weill
Creighton
Eastern Virginia
Einstein

Iowa-Carver

Mount Sinai
New York Medical
New York University
