In the face of a very real possibility that I might not be accepted to a program this year, I wanted to create this thread to see if there are any members out there who have advice on securing a paid RA job? Where should I start looking?

Thanks in advance.

Are you graduating? Where do you live? Are you willing to sublet an apartment for an internship opportunity if you are not graduating?

If you want to start doing research I would find professors at school who do research and decide what area I want to do research. For instance, I've been doing organic synthesis for two years. I would ask the professors will they be willing to pay you. Look for professors who publish alot. Try to get at least one publication done before you graduate. Pharmacy schools love that. Good luck with your research!!!

I am not sure how to ask. I have already been out of college for 3 years. I never had a chance to do undergrad research. Thanks for your help!

Do you have any lab experience at all? There is the possibility of contract work for industry, though not always as much "research" as hired labor. (I was a human robot for a year in industry). The job market to get into research isn't exactly the easiest, especially without experience. Get to know professors to find out who may need help and apply for jobs that are lab/research related.

How is research doing organic synthesis? Organic chemistry was very hard for me at first. I struggled so hard with it. After I got into it, I loved it.

Thanks for your help! I will try to ask professors. I am shy though.

I worked in a lab as an administrative assistant so I have some experience there. No experience with lab instruments or techniques though. Thanks for your advice!
