Hello Guys and Gals,

Thank you for taking time to read my post and possibly share some info.

My first question is: I have been invited for Interview at USC on 2/14 And at Case 2/20 and Upenn on 2/24. Should I still attend them? It is kinda late in the cycle for the schools on the East coast. And I dont want to spend like $1200 to go interview and get nothing out of it.

I went for interview at UNLV and They have not accepted me for the second round yet...They told me to check again in a month.

Another problem is that my status is International student. i think this kinda put UNLV hesitate to accept me because they know it is harder for me to take loans...Should I just stop going interview for this cycle. and wait for another cycle to try applying again when I know for sure I can pay for school?

some insights please.... I think I know what is best for me...but knowledge from you guys will help...thankx

I don't know the stats for the other 2 schools but i think USC interviews a ridiculous amount of students and accepts about 25% of them. Not the best bang for your buck in my opinion.

Definitely go to UPenn, ivy league man! Forget SC, too expensive. Definitely go to the Case one, too.

Considering you don't have an acceptance yet, you should definitely go to at least one or two of those interviews.

You don't know for sure you can pay for school? If that's the case, why would you apply at all this cycle? You need to go with it 100% or nothing, if you seriously don't think you can get the financial stuff straight, it won't matter if you interview or get accepted anywhere. In that case it would be best to apply when you're 100% ready in every way.

I would go to all of them. You only have 4 interviews.
Your also international.
I see you mentioned waiting for another cycle to apply. If something is going to change significantly that is going to make it so that you can take out loans then maybe not attend any interviews for that matter. Although, I would strongly suggest you talk to the schools themselves because I honestly think that you should be able to find a way because I know a lot of international students who make it happen whom aren't loaded and there attending some of the more expensive schools.
Have you talked to the schools about this yet?

In order to go to dental school you have to go to interviews (whether it is this cycle or not) You will end up spending more money in application fees and wasting a year. This could also possibly burn a bridge for next year if you plan on applying to them again. All my interviews were post december and I am glad I went to them because I wouldn't be in dental school if I hadn't. good luck👍

You don't want to spend $1200 to go for interview, but you believe that in one year you will be able to raise roughly 250K to pay for your dental education?

I would definitely go to the Case interview. They tend to accept most of the people they interview.

Your best bet is Case. It's a great school and they accept most of their interviewees. They even have people scheduled for interviews in April so your timing is good.

USC and UPenn will accept one out of every three or four interviewed. So it's a tough call. If you have the cash, then visit all the schools. If not then you'll have to make some choices.

Umm no, USC accepts about 2-4% of people they interview (they interview a lot).

Case and Penn probably you have a lot better chance of being accepted! Especially Case - I think they take anywhere from 70-90% of people they interview from OOS.

You want to check the figures/math again on that claim?

You should check on those numbers for USC because you definitely got something wrong, someone lied to you or you just misunderstood.

For an international (out of state) applicant, past two years:

2009: 2037 applied, 41 accepted. Not reported how many interview. From start to finish, 41/2037 = 2.01%

2010: 2000+ applied, 350 interviewed, 41 accepted.

41/350 = 20% of applicants who interviewed accepted.

Let's get one thing straight, getting an interview and ultimately accepted there is not easy. The sheer number of applicants ensures that.

I can say something is already wrong with your numbers. USC incoming class size is over 144 meaning they must accept over this number. You have them accepting 41 each year.

I am quoting numbers for OOS students only. The rest of the class is in state (CA students).

Must I be wrong?

NO way in heck did all the 41 that were offered an acceptance decide to matriculate.
Can't just accept the data head on like that. A little critical thinking can go a long way.

They probably didn't want to release or they probably didn't understand what the ADEA meant by 'accepted'.

I'm sure they accepted 150+ students, but only 41 decided to matriculate.
