I have three more semesters till i graduate.

So Spring '11
Fall '11
Spring '12

I am going to take 1st sem O chem starting Spring '11, so I will be done with O chem in December of this yr.

I am conflicted as to when to take the DAT. Do i take it this winter? so i can apply for the next cycle? (apply for summer '12) or should i take it summer after spring '12, but i will be late to apply for the cycle. I want to apply as early as possible.

And will it be enough if i study all summer, and a few weeks of winter before i take the DAT. I will study everything over summer except 2nd semester O chem.

What do you guys think? I really need to decide ASAP. 😕

Take it when you are ready. And sometimes that means not taking it as quickly as possible which could potentially mean delaying applying your app for 1 year.

School ends in May. If you can study in 6 weeks (May and half of June) then take it in June you would still be early. Problem is can you do it in 6 weeks? Lots of people here can. What if you do bad and need to retake? Then you will run into problems and won't be early anymore.

You can still submit your application without scores on June 1st. Then send your scores in at the end of June/early July. This would still be early.

Of course the safe route, is taking it in winter in-case you mess up. Although, not many people are that organized to do this. I guess you can start reviewing a tiny bit over winter break.

I think the best way to go about it is to start studying in December and take it whenever you feel as though you're ready. This, of course, will take some time management on your part but it is possible to study for the DAT while enrolled in classes. If you feel as though you're not ready by summer, just apply in June without scores and take the summer to study hard. The biggest mistake you can make is to take the test when you're not ready. Remember, you have to wait 90 days before you can retake the DAT and you only get 2 retakes before you have to appeal. So just be absolutely sure you're ready before you take the test.
