I graduated with a bachelor degree in animal science in May 2012 and had a really terrible GPA. I first got my associate degree from the local community college and had a GPA of a 3.3 there. Then I transferred to a university and did really terrible and had kidney stones like every semester which highly affected my grades and I had a loss in the family. Chemistry's and physics is what I did so bad in and actually ended up with a 2.2 GPA at the university. Not sure how I would figure out my total GPA from calculating both the community college and university grades. I still would have to take biochemistry and the GRE but does anyone have any suggestions that might would help or is there any hope of me ever getting into vet school? Would taking any additional classes might help me? I noticed also that you can take master's in animal science classes as a non-degree student so didn't know if that might would help me out trying to take some of those courses as obviously with my grades from the university I couldn't get straight into a master's program. I also did take 16 credit hours of vet tech classes that I made a 4.0 in but I doubt they even look at those grades? Would appreciate any suggestions.

So..it's not impossible by any means, it just means you will have to work a lot harder than someone who has done well academically.

You've started 2 other threads previously that are looking for the same or similar advice and you've gotten some really helpful responses. I'm not quite sure what else you're looking for at this point.

Oops sorry forgot I posted them and didn't go back and look at responses. I did however never ask about the masters in animal science classes as a non degree seeking student.

You can post on the old threads and it will bring them back to the top of the forum and perhaps get more responses. You may want to post in the "what are my chances" thread up top and include other stats (hours, etc) that are an important part of an application with a sub-par GPA.

The long and short of the masters is that it won't help you in its own right, but if you do well in it, it may help bring your GPA up. You need to take more classes since your GPA has both a down-ward trend and may not be even high enough to apply to many schools (3.0 being a common cut-off).

Your best bet would probably be to retake some of the pre-reqs you did poorly in and choose your schools based on how they calculate GPAs (i.e. replace grades, heavy emphasis on last 45 credits, etc.). While getting another degree may help boost your GPA and help you out if you do well in upper level science courses, it will not help you gain a competitive edge over those who only have a bachelors.

PM me if you need more suggestions! I was in a very similar situation
