Hello,
-I just took my DAT on April 12, and got AA23/TS23/PAT26.
-I am majoring in Health Promotion and minoring in Bio
-My current GPA is 3.56 overall and 3.56 science.
-I have 1000+ and 3 years of volunteer service.
-Working as a dental assistant since October of 2009.
-In a couple of organizations such as National Honor Society, American Student Dental Association
-Don't really have any leadership skills =(.

I will be applying around may 15th to the three Texas schools. What are my chances of getting in at least any one of these schools, and should I apply to more schools? I don't to waste money and apply out of state which is like 100 per school I think. But if I don't get any of the Texas schools I don't want to wait like a year. What do you guys think? any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

May 15t? More like June 3rd my very-well prepared pre-dental friend

For the TMDSAS it opens May 3rd, sounds like excellent stats, I don't know about texas dental schools in particular but you're very competitive for most dental schools in this country. Start writing your personal statement now and have someone help you to revise and review it so it's ready to go May 3rd. Do well in your interview, practice answers to general questions before you go. Do all of this well and it sounds like you would have a great shot.

Have you called the Texas dental schools to see if you are competitive? Or what advice they would have for you? That would be my top priority today. And take notes from each conversation with each school, you never know how helpful their information could be in the application process. There may be things they say you do not want to forget.

Good Luck!

I think you're in a very good position (nice DAT scores, btw!) but because your GPA is a little lower, it might be wise to apply to one to two OOS schools in addition to the Texas schools. Of course, you should probably speak with the admissions folks at the Texas schools and try and get a feel for how favorably your application will be considered...the only thing is, dental admissions are sort of a crapshoot no matter how great your scores are (and the cost of ~2 additional applications is small change compared to a year of your life on hold while waiting to reapply). Why not try some larger, though sadly insanely expensive, private universities, like BU etc.? My guess is you would easily get in, and then would at least have the option to go just in case the Texas schools don't work out. Good luck 🙂

You've got good scores for Texas schools. Giving them a call won't hurt though.

TMDSAS Application will be out Mid May. I have higher GPA and 22/21 DAT and I got in fine, but I applied really late (end Sep), so I applied to some OOS for safety. I now think that I wasted my money, but I would do the same again. It is just like buying an insurance, so I suggest you to 1. applu early. 2. apply to 3-4 out state school friendly. It is better to be safe than sorry.
