I have a 2.68 sGPA 3.0 cGPA. Since I haven't taken a lot of science classes I can take 3 science classes (2 this summer(1 summer 1 and the other summer 2), 1 in fall) I can bring my sGPA up to a 2.88. I can apply to schools that have the 2.75 and 2.85 sGPA cut off. Should I go ahead with this plan or knock out some classes in my major in the summer? If I knock out some classes in my major I will be able to ease up my fall and spring semester classes. But then I have to take 2 science class next summer. I'm planning on applying next summer. Before I apply, I want to reach the cut off. Or should I wait for the academic update? Thats why I'm thinking about take the 2 science class this summer and then 1 in the fall. What do you think?

I have 2 science classes left. 1 in fall, 1 in spring. 1 is a prereq. I have an upward trend.

You're more than likely going to need a post-bac or SMP. Grade cut offs are not something you should be aiming for as they are absolute minimums. Anybody with under a 3.0 is going to have a hard time convincing admissions committees that you are capable of doing well in dental school without additional rigorous coursework.

ok so it doesn't matter when I take the remaining course? I'm going to do an SMP.

You will not be offered a seat with a 2.68 science GPA so do your SMP first. 2.88 isn't going to cut it.

Yeah I'm apply next summer(2017) then doing SMP starting in fall(2017). The question is should I take the 2 science class this summer or next summer. If I take it this summer then I will have a higher sGPA on my transcript without any academic update(but it's not going to matter right since it isn't going to cut it)?

seems like there's going to be a continuing trend of questions like this for a while. I think I've seen at least 3~4 recently. I am sure there were more.
It's highly recommended to do post-bacc /smp, or masters if your GPA is below 3.0

I'm doing an SMP. So it doesn't matter when I complete the prereqs right? This question was focused on how to schedule my class primarily before I start my SMP. I'm planning on applying next summer(2017) then starting my SMP fall(2017). I just wanted to get some science classes in before I apply.

Apply for dental school or your SMP?

What are you applying to next summer?? Not dental school right..?

Applying to Dental school. Generally, you apply then do SMP, then wait for academic update.

Basically, apply summer '17, start smp fall '17, academic update, hopefully matriculate fall '18.

No, that is not how you do it. You realize you'd be applying with the same GPA and then can't update it until November. Not really going to help you. Complete the SMP, show schools you can handle the workload, and then apply.

No.. You don't do that cause then they'll just see the lower GPA. You finish an SMP first then apply. Why would schools interview you before they know if you can handle S and P?

Colorado state university offers an online post-bacc program where you take biochem, anatomy, physiology, etc. I don't think you have to apply and can just sign up whenever. Its great because you don't have to wait to get accepted and you can do it from the comfort of your home!
