So I have an elective rotation coming up at an institution that I am considering for residency. Since it has been a year since I have studied neurology...what book would be best to review prior to rotation to look very good while I am there...let me premise by saying the at my school we do not do a neurology rotation so I am taking my elective month in third year to do a neurology rotation since I am seriously considering and want to do a month to solidify my decision. Thanks for the help in advance.

Also any advice about an osteopathic student doing an allopathic neurology residency.

Also advice about the couples match...one in neurology...one in IM with GI fellowship most likely

I thank all those who provide wisdom

I'm always pushing this book on these forums, but I would recommend Patten's Neurological Differential Diagnosis. It is case-based, gives information on presentation, localization, diagnosis, and treatment, and has good anatomical diagrams. I think this is particularly useful to medical students, because it is all high-yield stuff. It is a little on the older side these days, so the treatments are not necessarily cutting-edge at the resident or attending level, but for a med-student that shouldn't matter too much.

Don't know anything about osteopathy, and haven't worked with any either, so can't share any first or second-hand experiences.

I couples-matched with my wife in OB/GYN, but this was back when neuro was still in the San Francisco Match, so it was a little bit easier because you could work the system without needing to do a formal couples-match. Either way though, I found that the best thing to do was to be up-front with your favorite programs and let them know what was going on. Several programs called their hospitals' OB-GYN program directors to try to help communication between us all. Also, it helps to sit down with the other half of your couple and plan out cities where you both have several options to match, then focus on those places. That way, when you make your rank lists, you can rank by city, so that even if you don't end up with your or your partner's top choice, you're still in the same city at least.

Hey, I'm a DO and I'm doing a rotation at an MD school right now. There's absolutely, positively, 100% no difference in my neurology rotation at a DO hospital and an MD hospital (actually the DO hospital was better IMHO). Just don't mention 'cranial' and you'll be fine lol

Are you at USC? You wrote about some insider info about the program. I remember when they were at the old facility and the program was in shambles. It is still?

Hal Blumfield's "Neuroanatomy Through Clinical Cases" is very good.
