Hi guys,
So I applied this past cycle to TX schools and a couple DO schools. My TMDSAS was transmitted to schools in late September. I haven't received any interview invites yet, so I'm starting to think my chances are dwindling.
I'll obviously need to take a year off if I don't get in, but the problem is my parents don't want me to. My mom was adament that I get into medschool THIS cycle (straight from undergrad). They don't understand how many people actually take a year off prior to medical school, or how many people don't get in their first try. They're under the impression that I must be stupid if I have to take a year off...
I've tried talking to them about this but they just won't listen! We've actually gotten into a few heated arguments... They are paying for medical school, which I'm thankful for... so I can't pull the whole "I'm paying for it so I decide" thing. I suppose they'll just have to deal with the fact that I'm going to have to apply next cycle if I don't get in this year... but still. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, do you have any advice?
Sorry to vent. It's just frustrating that they'd be disappointed in me for taking a year off before medical school prior to an entire lifetime of education.
Thanks for reading... lol.
