Hi... I'm not a student at Albany but my best friend is doing grad work at UAlbany so I've been to the area and seen the pharmacy school a few times. The pharmacy school is TINY but in a really nice, new building. There are student apartments in the surrounding area (I guess you would call them "on campus" housing). I know a girl that lives there are they are really nice inside.. a little pricey though. If you have a car, there are tons of student housing options down the road. The University at Albany is huge, so there are lots of little neighbornoods to rent houses in. Although, you probably will need roommates for that. Do you have any specific questions? I don't know if I'm being helpful at all, but I can try to answer your questions!!

I can't tell you too much about the parking situation, bec I myself have never actually had to park there. There are parking lots surrounding the pharmacy buildings, but I don't know if they are for student use or not. That would be something I'm sure they'll tell you at orientation. As far as the program itself is concerned, it is very well respected and well known in NY. (Where are you from?) Almost all of the pharmacists I have worked with went to Albany. Overall, I would say their biggest complaint was the size. The school itself is very small, as I'm sure you could tell based on the class sizes. I think there are only a few hundred students total currently enrolled (PY1-PY4). The building itself is really nice though... new and updated. When I saw it, I was very impressed. Albany is a great city. UAlbany and the pharmacy school are literally a mile down the road from each other so there are TONS of college kids around. There are also lots of bars/places to eat right there. If you're into the bar/going out scene downtown Albany is pretty close as well and a lot of fun! 🙂

OH wow!! Cali to NY, thats quite a hike! I'm sure the biggest change for you will be the weather... LOTS of snow and it gets very chilly! Let me know if I can answer anymore questions for ya.

I'm just curious, are u entering albany as a P3? or P1? I want to apply to albany myself, know how tough the acceptance is?

From what I know getting accepted as a PY3 student is VERY tough. Albany wants your GPA to be 3.5+ and has VERY limited seating for transfers. Also, they don't use letters of recommendation, supplemental applications, interviews, or PCAT scores in their decision-making process so acceptance is based almost 100% on your grades. I read on the AACP website that Albany's application to acceptance ratio is 30:1 (for every 30 applications they review only 1 will be accepted). 😱

On a more positive note, Albs is a GREAT school. Anyone who gets accepted as a PY3 student is lucky! I would personally love to go there.

Calrx, do you know if the PY3 of 6 yr program are in the same classroom with the PY1 of 3 yr accelerated program?
Thx

Actually, to make a long story short, I got a B.S. in psych, been working in the pharmacy for the past 2 years and after graduating in 05, I made a decision to go back to school. So i dont have any of the sciences. So I am wanting to apply into albay and start all over (P1) since they have the 0-6 program.

If not, then I would just take the pre-reqs (science courses) and then apply to several pharm. programs.

I would imagine so, but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe 'dontworry' would be able to answer this for ya.
