Here is my information. Any opinion on my actual chances at MD?

  • TN resident
  • 28O on retake, 29S adding up my highest area scores
  • 3.58 GPA; 3.45 BPM GPA (very strong upward trend - 3.88 last 2 years)
  • Masters from an Ivy and academic award for thesis/academics
  • 1 publication in a major journal
  • 5 years research experience
  • Great LORs
  • >220 hours shadowing
  • Great ECs from undergrad (honoraries, leadership positions, etc.)
Applying in-state and a few mid-tier schools. Thanks for the help!

AAMC data suggests that of All Applicants applying in the past three years with a undergrad GPA of 3.58/MCAT 28, 44% had an acceptance. Lenient state schools, ethnic minority status, strong upward grade trend and research with pub would moderate that number upward. Low BCPM, unbalanced MCAT scores (if present), late application (if true), no interactive clinical experience, no nonmedical community service would moderate that number downward.

The shadowing looks good, but if it was all a passive observership, you might consider getting in some activity where you engage and interact with sick people, if the research wasn't clinical in nature. Some regular volunteering that helps the poor would be good to see also.
