Hi everybody,
So I applied the 2010-2011 cycle but I applied really late and got two interviews and two waitlists. I think my application itself and PS were poor so Ive made sure to spend all semester on it. At that time I had a cgpa of 3.38 and sgpa of 3.31 and MCAT score of 33.
At the time I was involved as a tour guide for my undergrad, a chair of the model united nations conference at my school, and I worked in the same research lab for 3 years. I also held numerous positions in my fraternity, at the local, regional levels as well a a national position.I was a part of many community service events through my fraternity as well. I had jobs tutoring and working for kaplan as an mcat teacher and also worked in our family business throughout school. I spent time shadowing a physician for a semester and worked in his lab as well. My freshmen year I was also on the crew team.
After that I applied to SMP programs and I currently am attending one of the top 2 highest ranked programs. I will graduate with an Masters graduate GPA of 4.0 (top 10% of class) after taking classes like physiology, pathology, biochemistry, cell biology, histology, etc (all at the medical school level, since the classes are the ones the MS1 students also take). I retook the mcat and got a 35S. I have also volunteered at the hospital for 3 hrs/wk starting september till present (will probably end with at least 100 hours) and I have shadowed 3 different physicians this year for about a total of 200-250 hours. I will graduate next spring after completing my thesis next year and working in a lab for the year.
I just wanted to see where you think I stand now before I apply. Back then I applied in august, verified early september and got everything in by november, but I was very sloppy and disorganized. Right now Ive already handed in all my committee applications and I am the first to be interviewed at my schools for letters, I added 2 more letters of rec from medical school professors, already did an update for my work/activities section, and I am currently working on my personal statement. I hope to apply this year to many more schools and hand in my primary application on the first day possible, and finish secondaries as soon as I receive them, rather than waiting weeks to finish them.
So with my stats and activities, where should I try to apply? I know rank doesnt matter but I just wanted to see where I stood a chance applying this cycle.
thanks
