This may seem like a very silly question, and I aplogize in advance, but I value the opinions of many people on SDN so here goes...

Ok so I plan on taking my DATs this summer, in August.

I am going to be 100% committed to studying except for one thing. One of my best friends is having her wedding on August 19th and school starts again Sept. 1st. I'm worried about not having enough time to study because I really have to do very well on DATs I want very high scores to make up for my average GPA. I won't be helping plan the wedding because she knows I'm studying so don't bother with that, my entire summer is cleared just for studying. Recommendations? Take the DATs after the wedding on the 19th or before?

Thanks in advance!

Clearly you should take the DAT before your wedding. 10 days between a wedding and school starting is already too much to try and cram a test in between, especially if you're moving into a new place and if the wedding will be an elaborate multiple day celebration.

The good news is people generally think the DAT takes just 2 months of full-time studying, 3-4 months if you work part time. If you're not working, definitely start ASAP and schedule before the wedding.

Definitely take the DAT before the wedding. That way, it will be a huge weight lifted off of your shoulders and you can really enjoy the wedding. I spent two months total studying; the first month, I was still working full time and only studied 2-3 hours a day and 4-5 hours on weekends. The last month, I studied 8 hours a day. I'm happy with the outcome. As long as you really commit to studying and stay disciplined, you will be able to take it before the wedding. In fact, I don't recommend studying more than 2-3 months anyways because you can get burnt out and start forgetting stuff you studied in the beginning.

Definitely take the exam before the wedding. Starting now, you have a good solid 2 and a half month to prepare, which is more than enough for anybody if you study full time.

Take before the wedding. I gave my DAT after studying for 39 days. Check out my breakdown for more information. It is possible to get good scores but you have to be motivated and devoted.

If you're starting now, take the test August 1st. If you aren't ready then, you'll never be! 🙂 I stretched out my studying for a few weeks too long and could have totally taken it earlier.

Thanks so much everyone! All of your feedback and opinions helped a lot. I schedule my DAT for August 6th! Wish me luck!
