Hi Everyone,

So I was going over my AMCAS app with the health advisor at school Friday and she questioned why I didn't select the option to be considered a disadvantaged applicant.

She said that as a first generation college student, I should mark it and write the essay about how this affected me early on. I did have a poor freshman gpa but I don't know if that's appropriate.

I understand what she's getting at but I'm not sure if I agree and I'd appreciate some input from my fellow SDN users.

Thanks in advance.

i think there is a link you can click in AMCAS to see how they define disadvantaged. usually there is a specific list of qualifications.

It's just a little background thing they would like to know about you, like the disadvantage you have over those who have had access to things like tutors, family connections/help, and extended resources since they were little. They want to know how you've had to play a little bit of "catch up", not having that since the beginning.
