Hi

I'm actually a future optometry student who posts in that form but I was wondering if anyone can help me out with some info.. I have a 16 year old cat. Lately he hasnt been eating. We took him to the vet and she gave him an antibiotic, something for his thyroid and something for his liver. He started to eat a little more after he came back from the vet for about a week but now he won't eat anything and he has been throwing up a white mucus and today this green liquid that I'm thinking is bile.. It's really sad..he is just sitting in the living room..he wont move much. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with him? If there is any hope he can get better or a way to get him to eat? we've even tried giving him treats and he wont eat those. Any comments would be really appreciated! thanks so much! 🙁

Phillygirl,

16 is a pretty old kitty, but there are healthy cats that old. Hyperthyroidism and chronic renal failure are fairly common causes of anorexia, weight loss etc. in older cats, hence the meds your vet sent your cat home on.

A CBC and chem panel would be the next appropriate step to determine what's going on with your pet. I realize that your post is a few days old, but I just saw it. I would go back to your veterinarian immediately for a more complete evaluation. The longer your cat goes without eating/drinking, the tougher it's going to be to get him back on track. Best wishes.
