So I just got news on an acceptance to a medical school on thursday of last week. I am currently in a Masters program that I took to give me a pathway into a med school in case I got no acceptances for this cycle. I at the time of applying did not list the masters program on my primary application (as it had not started yet and I was not fully sure of going through with it), but when the program started (and the day before the interview of my med school I got accepted to) I updated my file to list the program on it. My question is, now that I have gotten accepted into a med school and no longer need the program, am I able to drop the program and save the money? Do I even need to report the grades/transcript for the program in the first place if I go through with the program? I will ask my school all these questions tomorrow, but Im just wondering what you guys think. Thank you any input is appreciated.

Yeah you can drop out. Generally, if you attended a set amount of class before dropping, then you should have a transcript, even if it's full of withdrawals. You'll submit this along with all other transcripts the summer before matriculating.

Welcome to the forums.

That depends on what your acceptance letter says about completing current coursework. Always clear anything through the admissions office.
Thank you for the response

Do you think the school would mind the transcript full of Ws? I will def ask them beforehand, but just from your own opinion what do you think? Thanks for responding btw

I can't answer for every school. That's why you ask.

Yes, you can drop the MS.

We have people who've done that in our MS program.

Congrats on the accept!

Now go read this:
Goro's Guide to Success in Medical School (2024 edition)

I thought medical schools did not start to give out acceptances until October 15. My school only just started interviewing.
Did you apply for early decision? If you're confident enough about your application to apply early decision, why did you enroll in a masters program (you said masters program to give you a pathway to medical school, did you mean an SMP? Something doesn't add up to me)

I applied DO and MD and submitted my DO application via AACOMAS around June. I have already had 4 interviews since then, got waitlisted from 2, and am waiting to hear back from one, along with the acceptance I mentioned. in terms of MD schools, im in texas so I used TMDSAS, and have not heard back from any schools there other then rejections from a couple and of course secondaries i had sent to me to fill out. I also used AMCAS to apply out of state, but it wasnt for many schools and i haven't heard back so far from any AMCAS applications either outside a few secondaries. My science gpa is low, and i genuinely was not sure of my chances of making it to a medical school anywhere at the start of the cycle. So when the master's program (its accelerated 10 month program) oppurtunity came up, i decided to take it because if you get a 3.2 gpa in the program (along with having a 500 MCAT, which i already had above that), then the program gurantees an interview at the school for their medical program, and everyone from the previous cycle who used the program and got an interview had gotten accepted to that school. But i no longer need the program anymore, and I know (unless an MD school opp comes up, which is unlikely) that i want to go to the school i got accepted into

Okay, since it is a DO school offer, chances are they would be fine with you withdrawing from your SMP, but ask for courtesy and professionalism purposes. You never know.
