Hello all!

Just have a few questions to those who are more familiar with the application process for OT school.

I obtained my undergraduate degree in biology last May and have taken a year off to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life and I have decided to go in the therapy field.

How does it work for applying when you already have a undergrad degree? I have noticed for some schools like UW-Milwaukee that they state they have a program for Post professional (already are an OT) or students to obtain a dual BS/MS degree--I guess this confuses me as to how you apply if you already have obtained an undergraduate degree.

Also, about how many years will it take on average for me to obtain my Masters in OT? I have been getting different answers from several sites and hope I can gain some insight here.

If you can help I would really appreciate it! Thank you so much in advance!

You have a lot of options for having already completed a bachelor's degree. As of 2007, the minimum requirement to practice as an occupational therapist is a master's degree. This would typically take from 2 to 2.5 years of full-time study. You're already at an advantage for having completed undergrad.

You can also apply to the BS/MS programs. The ones I looked into were all three years. You would submit your application the same way someone without a degree would; you're not limited for having already earned a bachelor's degree. In fact, a good friend of mine is in one of these programs and she, too has a bachelor's degree in biology. The only caution with that, though, is that you might not get as much financial aid. However, I don't have firsthand knowledge of any limitations with that (maybe someone else here does?).

Exactly how long the degree will take is dependent on the school. It's not like med school where you know you're in for four years no matter where you go. It's been my observation though that most of them happen to take 2-3 years.
