Hi guys, I hope you all must be getting ready for the 2016 Caapid cycle.I had applied last year in a few universities but I did not get any interview call.I passed part 2 last year before I applied. My Gpa is 3.65 an best result 3.84.I had a 3month observation exp a US dentist's clinic and some CDE courses and one conference attendance.I was pressed with time to add more experience in terms of shadowing.Just did what I could last year.I know everyone is working hard to reach their goals and everyone has their own problems.I don't know if I should apply this year 2016 it's because I am pregnant with twin babies.First trimester is almost going to be over because of that I have been very tired and sick sometimes.I postponed going to dental clinic for observation till I feel more energetic. My question is to all those ladies who went through pregnancy, babies and still manage to get in.I need some positive advice what I should do this year.I don't have many dentist friends in USA and I feel sad when I think I might be just wasting my time sitting and resting at home.Thank you

I would not sugarcoat it for you, just advise what would be a good idea and you decide what is important at this moment.
You probably already know that it will be difficult. You may feel a bit better in a second trimester, so try to volunteer in some quiet place.
The main questions, from my experience, are those:
1. Who will be taking care of the kids when I am at school
2. Will I look pregnant at the interview
If you plan to apply to school where you live or move your whole family to a place of study and have a relative who will be taking care of the kids full time, then you will be able to study. Daycare, nanny and just you and your husband - a lot more difficult, just because you will be dead tired and would not be able to perform well enough at school. Is it doable - it is, but very hard, especially with two newborns
Another thing is an interview. Even though there are laws, which prohibit discrimination of pregnant etc., if you look pregnant at the interview the adcom may think you are not a very reliable candidate. For example I got too emotional last year - stupid hormones, and did not leave positive enough impression.
Anyway, it is for you to decide. It makes sense to prepare well this year, maybe take part 2, if you did not take it, get more observation or volunteering and apply next year. By the time of beginning of study kids will be big enough to make it easier for you

Hi @Bee123 I am planning to take part 1 in May this year and also planning on getting pregnant this same year .. If you already passed part I and II do not give up! Apply to every University if you have to but do not give up, you already did the hardest part so don't give up now! I think you just have to be clear of who is going to take care of your twins and if you're invited to an interview while being pregnant just tell them your plans , because one thing is for sure, you won't be able to take care of your twins, someone will have to do that for you , you have to plan that very well. Another important thing you didn't mention is your toefl, I know some people get low grades in their toefl and every University has a different required toefl score so you might want to check that out but don't give up ! 🙂 mis mejores deseos

Thank you for taking out time to reply to me 🙂.Its very encouraging. At the moment I have decided to prepare for Gre and be done with it this year. You asked me about my toefl score it was 97.I think it was mainly the toefl score and my sop where I lacked. After I am done with gre I'll repeat toefl.I think if I can achieve good scores this year I'll be quite happy with this progress 🙂. I will have to be going out of city and that makes it even more challenging this year 🙁 But Good luck to you for nbde part 1.And thank you for such a positive advice.Atleast I will push myself to study with my twinnies lol Have faith in God and ofcourse prayers!!!

Thank you for replying 🙂 You have mentioned some very realistic points.I don't know how ladies feel with a single baby but my twin preg makes me way too tired lol I think this year I will be mainly focusing on some volunteering.Work on my toefl score, it was 97.And I might give gre.I passed nbde 2 last year so that's a relief.
Are you in training or are you done with school?

I thought you were an International dentist like me 🙂 . I'm an international dentist living in Texas... I got confused when you are talking about gre, schools don't ask for gre .. I'm planning on applying to IDEP program , the last 2 years of dental school .. Another thing , why are you volunteering instead of working as a dental assistant? At least you would get paid and you can put it on your
resume 🙂 @Bee123

LOL I am also an international dentist 🙂 and I live in Texas too!! I am giving gre just to see if I can get in masters.by volunteering I meant observation in a clinic but right now if I work as an assisstant I don't want to get any exposure to infectious agents in clinic and I am not taking X-rays to be on a safe side, that's y I thought I will just observe for sometime.whats your email? We can keep in touch!

I'll inbox it to you 🙂

Just one more warning from my experience. You are more likely to feel worse then average pregnant person by the end of your pregnancy and may even require bed rest. Plan accordingly
