As I said before, I am in a Community College. I debated whether I should transfer asap, or get an associates degree.
All doctors I talked to have suggested that I go to a very good four-year college instead of some public college. So I am trying to do everything I can to meet the requirements of Columbia University as well as New York University where I will be taking pre-med courses before applying to their respective medical schools.
To get into those colleges I need to really raise my GPA as it's currently at 3.4. So obviously transferring asap is out of the question. I am now planning to get an associates which may take me an additional 3-4 semesters, as well as giving me enough time to raise my GPA to about 3.7-3.8 range to increase my chances.
The associate major I am interested in is Surgical Technology listed here: http://www.kingsborough.edu/apdegree/surgtech.html
Most people say that I should not take any pre-med courses at a Community College, as well as not scatter them around meaning take some courses like biology at a CC, and the rest at the 4 year school. This major includes anatomy and physiology I and II which may not be related to Bio I and II that is required so I may have miss read.
How helpful would this major be in terms of applying to those Universities?
Also, Universities like Columbia and NYU accept many students with Honors and such and I have not entered any such programs yet. Getting this degree will give me enough time to complete these as well.
I need some advice on how I need to improve to get into these good universities because I refuse to get an education at a mediocre college. I am willing to take my time to get into those colleges.
Thanks, Yuriy.
