I am currently on 2 waitlists, so unless I hear something soon, I am going to plan on reapplying. Does anyone have any advice? I have a decent GPA and MCAT and I went to Hopkins Undergrad. I applied late due to August MCAT so I want my application to get in ASAP. Did people who reapplied apply to the same schools? Any advice with LORs or anything would be helpful as I am not looking forward to this process at all. I plan on taking graduate level science courses this year and continue to volunteer at an ophthalmology practice.
I did not like the 're-gearing up' part about reapplying either. It's hard to put yourself out there and be vulnerable to rejection like that.

Of course, this time, apply early. Make that rolling admissions process work for you. I reapplied to many of the same schools - my state school actually looks more favorably on reapplicants, and to my knowledge, most schools do so. I forwarded my LORs to next year, and supplemented them with updates (e.g. my LOR from my boss from '05 app used for my '06 app + a new letter from my boss describing another year's work experience).

One of the main things I was told when reapplying was to spread a wider net. I ended up applying to 23 schools and had several acceptances the second time around.

If you want more help, there is a great conference going on in DC the weekend of June 8-11. Check it out at www.oldpremeds.org and then hit the Read More Here link. I don't think I could have done it without them!

Katdyer, may I ask what schools you are waitlisted at?

I would recommend expanding the list significantly to be sure. With an August MCAT, however, when did you submit your AMCAS and secondaries?

I am waitlisted at UF and Univ. of MD and technically FSU but they start next week so that is probably not happening. I ended up sending in my Amcas in late September because I figured my scores would be okay and then finished most of my secondaries by October and November. I interviewed at UF, FSU, Univ. of MD and Duke. I am an FL resident so I have 4 schools that mostly take FL residents.

By "forwarded" LORs, do you mean you got schools to dig up the LORs from last year's file and put it into this year's file? If so, are you able to do that everywhere?

Yup. Some of the schools I reapplied to had my old application, with those LORs, still on file. I just asked them to take the LORs out of the application from a year ago and put them into the new folder for this year. Not all places do this.

KatdyerA1A - I knew a couple of kids who got off a waitlist 2 weeks after classes started.

That would definitely be a dream. I just do not want to wait and wait then come August and be stuck in the same position. I am lucky in that I can afford the application fees so I could always apply and then just withdraw if I get in off the waitlist. I applied to a lot of schools last cycle, many I thought I could get into because I went to a great college, but apparently that does not matter. I will try to apply to more lower-tiered but I really want to just go to one of my state schools.

As for LOR questions, I know that they started a new system last year where your letters were scanned and posted on some server and schools could just look you up and print them off. I know my school did not have to send any letters, they were all on computer file. So maybe those letters are saved on there and if you reapply then can just pull them off again. I am not sure about this but it is possible.
