Hey guys...been a silent reader of this forum for quite some time and have found it very useful so wanted to get some advice...

I'm a US born img who was supposed to give his step in two weeks but I have cancelled due to low nbme scores...not really that upset about losing money just want to get a great score

Took nbme 13 yesterday and scored the same as I did in nbme 12 fifteen days earlier (around 200 on the usmle conversion)....Depressing as hell, 2 weeks of balls out studying with no change in score

I did Kaplan back in sept, did dit, been thru first aid numerous times, and have listened to Goljan audio

What do you guys suggest the best thing to do to get my score up around the 220s...I'm pretty sure I'm gonna order pathoma, do you guys think that will bump my score by at least 20 points? Heard nothing but good things about it

Any and all advice welcome, thanks

Yes order pathoma. It will help greatly.

Also, are you doing practice qs? Uworld one block in the morning to start your day.

Thanks. Yeah forgot to mention ran thru Kaplan qbank and uworld with about 55-60 percent correct...did usmlerx also this last month but I found hilariously easy and not representative at all (they have my score predicted around 230 but I can't break 200 on an nbme )

You will have to analyze why you are getting the questions wrong. Is it because you are lacking information or is it because you are getting tricked into selecting the wrong answer? If it is the later, you will need to do more questions (specifically nbme and UWORLD questions) and if its the former you may need to brush up on your basic sciences.

I know its obvious but each person is different.

And yea definitely get Pathoma. The only problem is that Pathoma is roughly 35 hrs long.... so you may have a tough time getting through that in 3 weeks along with Uworld and possible FA review. Best if you could delay the test a bit though

Do USMLERx questions in timed, hard mode

To answer your first question, its a bit of both...sometimes ill feel like ill have a concept down but the way they ask questions can confuse me a bit as to i don't know what specifically their asking for....and I usually notice after reviewing my test that i have made some pretty crazy blunders just cause of some brain farts (that was the case for nbme 12, haven't gone thru my in corrects on nbme 13 yet but i did find the behavioral questions to be much more tough on this one then any of the previous nbmes i have taken (12,11,5)

Yeah i just put in the order for pahtoma....time isn't really an issue but ideally i want to take it around end of july or august now...ive postponed twice already but i know postponing a weeks here and there is nothing in the grand scheme of things...if i get an okay score I'm screwed for life

Definitely postpone it. Listen to Pathoma, annotate/ understand the information he presents and do UWORLD. Best of luck.

Looking at your NBME scores, i think you are lacking basic science knowledge ( don't take it as offence), i would recommend postponing your exam and start from your weakest subject, and study from RR pathology unless you have strong pathology department at your school and do more UWORLD questions.
