Hi everyone,

I have an assignment where I need to interview someone in my field of choice. I'm hoping to start DPT school in 2014, so if there is a PT out there who has a moment to answer my questions, I'd appreciate it! (And no, the assignment isn't just a "copy and paste" of your answers, I need to write a response and a reflection to each answer to each of the questions I've written. Thank you in advance!!

Can you give me a little background information on yourself? (Can be as simple as "Charlie, I work at a hospital in Columbus, Ohio in an inpatient setting."

As a physical therapist, what is a typical day like for you?

Is there a great deal of liability involved compared to say, a doctor or a nurse practioner?

Do you feel as if moving towards patients being able to go directly to a PT (vs. needing a referral) is a good thing? Why or why not?

What suggestions would you give to someone who is pursuing a career in physical therapy?

What are some things you didn't realize about physical therapy until you started practicing?

Do you feel that obtaining a specialty (for example, sports medicine) is beneficial? Why or why not?

At least you don't have 19 questions like this poster:

Frankly, I doubt you'll get any answers from this forum. We're all busy (that's a nice way to say "lazy"), and it's very easy to ignore a post or an email. IMHO, your best bet is to go to a local hospital or outpatient clinic and see if you can have some time with one of the PTs there. It's harder to say no to someone who is earnest, and who is standing in front of you. And may be you can even shadow that PT eventually. Good luck.

Haha nope, we only had to write six for this assignment. The trouble is that the class starts on Tuesday 10/2 and the assignment is actually due that same Tuesday evening (the assignment was only posted today) so I thought I might have trouble finding a PT that can sit down on such short notice with me. I figured I'd put it up here just in case, but I'll definitely do some footwork tomorrow and see if I can find someone that way too 🙂 Thanks for the advice!!
