Does anyone know where I can find demographic figures on medical students and/or medical residents?

Primarily I need figures by race/ethnicity and citizenship, though breakdowns by sex and age would also be helpful.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

If you get the Complete Book of Medical Schools, it lists information for all the accredited med schools in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, plus some osteopathic schools. For each school, they list % minority, avg. age of entering class, and male/female ratio. They also list other useful stuff like avg. GPA, MCAT, and lots of other good stuff. It's published by Princeton Review and is updated annually. You could also check the websites of the individual schools, but the book has it all there in one place.

Also check the educational issue of JAMA - usually the 2nd or 3rd week in September. Every year they post match results, info about schools, etc. compiling a pleothora of tables with categories broken down by nationality, gender, race, etc. It might be a good start - especially for residency (does the same for each specialty).

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pat Daddy and Kimberli! Very helpful info.
