Anyone who is in a nonclinical specialty that had trouble passing Step 3? What did you all do to pass? I am considering Kaplan. Anyone out there in the same boat as me?

I'm in the same boat as you. Not doing a residency but am thinking of taking Step 3.

I've heard that doing USMLEWORLD is the way to go. Reading Master the Boards Step 3 is also recommended.

Btw, what are you doing if you're not doing a residency? I'm getting an MBA. PM me if you like.

Doing UWorld, reading some of MTB/First Aid will still be good enough if you're not too far removed from medical school. The closer you are to med school, I think the better it is to take it. Make sure you spend enough time on the CCS aspect of this test - its worth a big chunk of the score and will help immensely.

Thanks for your help...yeah there is enough material in UW and MTB (if you know it) to pass (along with doing well on CCS). I just dont know if I should take Kaplan...dont want to overwhelm myself but I think it may help me reinforce the material. I just need to PASS by the way.

It is pretty hard for strangers on the internet to know how much studying you need to do. If you scored >250 on step I and CK then you probably can get away with less studying. If you had to take CK a few times you should study a lot. Also depends on how far removed from the material you will be tested on you are. If you just graduated this past May you will probably remember more than if you graduated years ago and have been looking at slides since then.

If you aren't sure use some self evaluation tool to determine your need for additional studying.
