Hi guys,

Took DAT in September, applied late and wondering if I should reatke or apply with these scores?
PAT- 17
RC- 15
Bio- 17
QR- 19
OC-18
GC-25
TS-19
AA-19

Thanks for your feedback

Without GPA to add context, definitely yes. RC and Bio should be higher, at least in the 19-20 ballpark.

Your AA is about on par with the average score of matriculants at a lot of schools, but i'd call the schools you are interested in and ask if they have cut offs for scores.

If you want to go out of state than a retake would be a good idea, but if not I think you'd have a good chance still, provided that your RC is above cutoffs (if your instate school (s)) have them.
Good luck!

Depending on private vs. state schools. I would be content with that score, being the average for acceptance to my number one choice. Although, the higher the better.

The RC score is below cut-offs in most places that have it. You should confirm with the schools you have in mind since if they deem a 15 too low you'll have to retake, but if they don't care you can at least try. Your DAT won't help your app in either case, but if it is adequate to get you in it doesn't really matter now does it?

Thanks everyone for their replies.

I applied late and that resulted in me needing to reapply.
I called up NYU and said my RC score and BIO score was below average, and that was a cause for concern.

If I retake the DAT I'm just worried about losing that 25 in GC.

Any thoughts on the best way to approach this?
Is a retake the way to go or apply early this year?

I'm in your same situation. This will be my third time to take the DAT as well and I want to apply early. I'm scheduled for May 17th but I'm really worried I won't be ready. However, my school has scheduled their pre-dental board interviews for May 18th and I really want my new DAT scores to take to the interview with me. I don't want my previous average scores to affect their recommendation..such a dilemma.

Hey Lint50, I hear your side of the story.

It's a tough decisiom to make because your scores look good all around except for QR (which counts the least) whicj ==h makes absolutely no sense why they didn't accept you. your scores were solid, and I'm in the same boat and have to retake it again for a 15 in RC.

This time around you'll detsroy the DAT and get into your school of choice. GL

If you can manage 19s in everything and still lose 25 GC your DAT would be better. Honestly a 15 is is below the average cut off for 17 so that is the only reason I would advise a retake without hesitation. A well rounded score that is higher is better for most occasions than a generally lower score with one stellar one in a single subject!
