Hi all.

I need your advice on what you think is the most prudent step at this point.

I am currently reapplying to allopathic medical schools after having completed a masters degree in biomedical science the previous year. However, because of the intensive studying the degree demanded, I did not have enough time to study for the MCAT so that I may retake it and score well. Therefore I have started preparing to take it in March.

With that said, my question to you is this:

As MCAT scores generally take a month to come out, and taking into account my previous MCAT score was not enough to even get 1 interview, do you think it would be wise to apply this year this late?

I am thinking of applying for now so that if I should stand a chance to get accepted, that might hinge on how well I do on my next MCAT. Please let me know of your thoughts and ideas as to what your next step might be had you been in my shoes.

Thanks for your help!

By "this year" do you mean for the 2010 cycle (AKA class of 2014)? If so, I don't know if there are any med schools whose deadline extends this late. I think you're pretty much SOL for this cycle. If by "this year" you meant the 2011 cycle, taking the MCAT in March is plenty early. Just study hard from now until then to improve your score.

March is a good test date. You'll have your scores by April, and should have no problems submitting your app in early June.

Yes, I originally meant to get into medical school by the fall term of 2010, so that would be the class of 2014. I already put in a few applications in the event I could get accepted, but I'm not sure if at this point my time (and money) would be better spent simply focusing on the MCAT. But you answered that either way, the 2011 cycle would be better suited for me, right?
