Ran into a logistical problem and wanted to see what you all thought.

I am scheduled to take CK on 11/11

I'm scheduled under my maiden name

I got married and have changed over everything except my passport.

I have not received my new DL - I just have the paper one with my new last name

NBME says that I have to change my name within 7 business days before my test - I won't have my DL by then so no govt. issued proof that my name has been changed. (They require marriage cert. and an ID that has a signature, my name, and a photo - like a passport or driver's license).

So technically I have two aliases (my maiden name and my married name).

Since I'm registered under my maiden name - and I have a valid passport under that name - should I just keep it like that?

Otherwise I would have to reschedule my test to wait for everything to get updated - this is sooo not an option for me.

I'm pretty sure they just need the ID to make sure that the person who registered regardless if it was in my maiden or married name - is the person who is taking the test. However, I'm nervous that they will run a social security check or something after I take the test and see that I am in the process of changing my name and didn't tell them. I don't want to get in trouble with USMLE, NBME or my school - and I def. don't want it to have a negative impact on my residency application. I am applying under my maiden name for residency - b/c I just recently married so the name change takes a lonnnnngggg time.

Thoughts?

50 people look at the post and have NO opinion - I don't buy that - help a sista out!

Call NBME , tell them the problem or I would say go with the maiden name n passport.

The paper one plus your old ID should suffice. I ran into the same problem with an expired ID but the paper one was good enough. Call the test site in advance. Shouldn't be a problem since your drivers license # isn't different. You are not the first person to get married and carry a new last name.🙂
