So I know I'm jumping to conclusions a little bit here, but I'm having doubts on the chances of my acceptance this time around. My cumulative GPA is sitting at a 3.41, while my prereq GPA is a 3.32. Scored a 157 on the quant portion of the GRE, 151 on verbal, and an AWA of 3.5 (completely botched the first question).

So looking towards the future, if I were to not get into any programs this time around what should I do next to strengthen my application for the next cycle. Should I try to raise my cumulative GPA or focus more on raising my prereq GPA. A glaring C in the first semester of physics is what dropped it from a 3.51 to a 3.32. I also plan on retaking the GRE to improve my verbal and AWA scores.

Thanks Guys!

Start with your lowest pre req grades and retake those first. That will raise both your pre req and cum. Retake the gre to get a 4 on the writing. Keep doing observation hours although as long as you meet the minimums I wouldn't get hours at the expense of your retakes...maybe just a few hours a week.

Ok thanks! I'm currently working as a tech in an outpatient setting so the hours are going to be there for as long as I need them to. Besides that C, I have B in both BIOs and also B's in both CHEMs. I believe if I retook both BIOs and received A's and retook physics and received at least a B, then my prereq GPA would be somewhere around the 3.6 range.

Definitely do the exact math on everything too...it doesn't take that long and it's good to know. But that will help you decide how many classes to retake and which ones. And it will help you decide if retaking a B to get an A is worth it.

OP. Yep, C's will tear apart a great gpa. Honestly, it depends on how many/which programs you applied to. Your stats actually aren't that bad, I think you have a real shot of getting in this cycle. My overall was a bit higher but my pGPA was similar when I applied. I was taking more prereqs when I applied but I got in to most the schools I applied to. Its good to have a plan just incase, especially if you want to get into one school in particular. Use the GPA calculators online to figure out what you need to do to boost it and make sure you're keeping in mind that some schools calculate GPA's differently. Good luck! Be a Positive Paula instead 🙂
