Is it possible to negotiate for some more financial aid after you receive your award letter? I will begin Med School in August, and right now my top choice (USC) essentially gave me nothing but a subsidized stafford and told me to take out loans for about $69,000 the first year (that's their budget). That seems so ridiculously high to me. Do you think it's possible to negotiate, something, anything with them?

Moving thread to Pre-allopathic as this is a Pre-Allopathic issue. Allopathic medical students may respond to this thread in that forum.

You can try (and it doesn't hurt to try,) but realize that you really have no leverage, and are negotiating from a position of huge weakness.

Sorry, but this is one aspect of the process that TOTALLY SUCKS.
