NEOMED (North East Ohio Medical University)
Pros
  • US MD, can practice in many countries
  • Match List is a little Primary care oriented but rotates through some good hospitals
  • On Campus housing, Much Simpler staying in US
  • Slightly Cheaper If I get in state Tuition after the first year
Cons
  • Location: While I don't mind a medical school in a corn field as much as most I am nature oriented and Australia and New Orleans both blow Ohio out of the water in terms of locale
  • Mandatory in person curriculum and very hands on when I am an older non trad and definitely don't need the hand holding
University of Queensland, Ochsner
Pros
  • Adventure, Beautiful city in Brisbane on the Gold Coast and I love New Orleans
  • Always felt a connection to Australia and some family is from there
  • Match list is not like other IMG's just look it kind of kicks ass to me, they have matched neurosurgery and IR
  • Dedicated home Hospital in Ochsner with some research opportunities in Brisbane also
  • Can practice in US, Australia, UK and New Zealand with this MD
  • Multiple UQ Ochsner grads have matched into my home Program where I want to do Residency at OHSU
Cons
  • Not a US MD
  • A little more expensive
  • A lot of unknowns and obstacles in moving to Australia although I fly for super cheap as my mom is a flight attendant
  • 3000 deposit up front
Please Actually compare the match lists and data rather than just parroting the IMG vs US MD. I have attached links.

NEOMED and it’s not close. You always choose USMD. UQ might look impressive because they have so many more students therefore increasing the chances of impressive matches

You can practice in any of those countries with a USMD

It seems like you’re mainly drawn to UQ for social/personal reasons but it’s not a reason to choose a med school that will make it harder to match assuming your goal is US based practice
