My spouse will soon be looking for jobs in neonatology and we are hoping to get a sense at what current jobs (both private and academic) are offering in terms of salary, hours, responsibilities, etc. Are a lot of jobs offering sign on bonuses, or bonuses for completing extra shifts. How many shifts are people working per month? Also, how is the job market right now- is there a lot of demand for neonatologists or is the market becoming oversaturated.
Our impression has always been that neonatology is one of the higher compensated fields in pediatrics and is in reasonably well demand, but would be interested in hearing real life anecdotes of what people are being/have been offered.
