Hi Every One! ,

I am a new member.Just registered last week and I have a question already.

What are the monitoring parameters in severe birth asphyxia (example NEC)?

NEC is not an example of severe birth asphyxia. Perhaps you meant to ask how infants with birth asphyxia are cared for to decrease the risk of NEC? Also, I strongly recommend Up-to-Date for clinical questions, rather than SDN.

Hi oldbearprofessor,

Thanks for the response. Not sure what you meant by " Up-to-Date for clinical questions".

>>NEC is not an example of severe birth asphyxia.

Sure. It is a type of asphyxia (GIT).
>>Perhaps you meant to ask how infants with birth asphyxia are cared for to decrease the risk of NEC?

No. I meant my original question - monitoring for improvement or detoriation

Sorry, but I still don't understand what you are asking for, so I will defer to others.

Are you asking how we monitor for poor organ perfusion in preemies? When you say "birth asphyxia" it sounds like you're talking about a lack of oxygen during the delivery.

I'm not a neonatologist like OBP, but I know that one of the ways we monitor for NEC when we're concerned about it is by abdominal radiographs.

Perhaps if you reworded the question you would get a better response from one of our experienced pedi folks. 🙂
