I was reading this clip below about a new medical show that will be starting this fall. As soon as it said "clique from high school go into certain specialties" I was cringing that it would say "nerds go into pathology". Of course this is kind of silly to talk about but I have noticed that certain specialties seem to attract certain types, like for sure the orthopedists are for the most part locker room jock types. I thought the derm residents always seemed very good looking and dressed sharp, almost like they could be on a TV show. Nephologists, Neurologists, and Endocrinologists always did seem ultra-nerdy to me. ED does attract cool rebel types (my friend said that at his orientation week for an "elite" highly competitive E Med residency program that there was a party and attendings were smoking pot with the residents and everyone was just drinking to oblivion.)
I suppose there is no way around it. Pathology is definitely a nerd field, maybe even a geek field.
"A new clip from the CW Network series premiere of "Emily Owens, M.D." was released on Monday.
The anticipated new medical drama series won't premiere until October 16, but the CW has given us a new sneak peek into the first episode of the show. The clip features Emily Owens (Mamie Gummer) during her first day working at the Denver Memorial Hospital.
As she gets introduced to hospital life by a fellow intern, Emily learns that, just like in high school, Denver Memorial is full of cliques. Every different doctor group working at the hospital belongs to the same one they were known for in high school.
Orthopedic surgeons are the jocks, the mean popular girls have all gone into plastic surgery, rebels are in the ER, stoners have become anesthesiologists, the next door girls are in Obstetrics and nerds are into neurology."
