The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss was a great read. Some have dubbed it the next great fantasy trilogy. The third book has yet to be released.

I'm just watching Scrubs and Supernatural at the moment, but I love Suits and Arrow as well (I don't think Suits is on Netflix actually...)

Watch Game of Thrones for sure. I'm only two seasons in, but I plan on finishing it this summer. Very good watch.

HBO: Game of Thrones, True Detective, Silicon Valley
Netflix: House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Daredevil, Breaking Bad, American Horror Story
Other shows I've enjoyed: House, Grey's Anatomy, Stargate-SG1, Family Guy, Friends, The Office, Bob's Burgers

There are so many good things! Depends on what you like. Sherlock, orange is the new black, and Attack on Titan are things that come to mind

read George RR Martin's Game of Thrones. The sHBO series is very good, but the books are great.

Oldies but goodies (meaning you can get them at the library), Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series, starts with Hunt for Red October.
The Cardinal in the Kremlin, Debt of Honor and without Remorse are top notch reads in this series.
Stop after 7 or 8 books, his last 3 were not very good though, rumors he had a ghost writer. Enjoy your summer.

So, I start medical school at the end of the summer and besides traveling and hanging out, I also intend to rip through Netflix/HBO GO this summer.

Suggestions on movies/shows people?? Any suggestions on good summer reads are very much appreciated as well!
Breaking Bad on netflix is a must see!

Netflix: The Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, Breaking Bad, Blacklist, Bates Motel, Sons of Anarchy, Agents of Shield, How I Met Your Mother, Surviving the Cut, M.A.S.H., Family Guy

I've heard nothing but good about all the Netflix Originals TV shows.

Books:
Armor by John Steakly
Ender's series by Orson Scott Card
Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn
Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien
Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
Maze Runner series by James Dashner
pretty much any book by Ken Follet
Kite Runner by Khaled Housseini

I'm currently reading Dune by Frank Herbert, and it's a pretty good read.

Too many movies to name, but as for shows Sherlock, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and True Detective are absolute must sees. Watch those 5 first before getting sidetracked with anything else.

As for the best of the rest, Luther, Twin Peaks, Black Mirror, Broadchurch, Daredevil, the first season of House of Cards (seasons 2 and 3 are meh), arrested development, always sunny in Philadelphia, and Scrubs (I'd say save this for 3rd year when you really come to appreciate it, although its still great regardless).

True detective is absolutely one of the greatest series I have had the opportunity to watch.

Check out Call the Midwife on Netflix. It's a really amazing show.
For books, I just started reading the Ender's Game series and I think I'm in love.

Orson Scott Card is by far my favorite author. I read all 14 books; he started in 1985 and is still publishing the series.

I'm only on Speaker for the Dead but I plan to read them all! Which is your favorite, other than the original?

Dexter and Breaking Bad are my two favs on Netflix. You could probably get through Dexter in a couple weeks. Breaking Bad might take more time.

LIVESHIP TRADERS!!!

I just finished the trilogy, they were incredibly good! Lots of character development, it was awesome.

Ender's Shadow, though that's probably cheating...I felt like it added a surprising amount watching everything unfold from another character's perspective. Especially one as awesome as Bean!

OMG you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear that Bean comes back. Chronologically, does Ender's Shadow come after Ender's Game in the series? I'm still kinda confused about all the time line stuff.

No, it's the same time. Instead of being inside Ender's head as Ender goes through BS, you're in Bean's head as Bean goes through BS. Yet somehow the story feels different. I thought it was really well done.

Bean actually has his own series after Ender'sGame/Ender'sShadow...anything with 'Shadow' in the title has Bean as the protagonist.

Bean actually has his own spin-off after Ender'sGame/Ender'sShadow...there's a whole series of 'Shadow' books, all with Bean as the protagonist.

Ohh! Oh my gosh okay I am so excited to read that one now. I have decided to read them in order of publication sooo looks like I will have to read Xenocide and Children of the Mind before I get to Ender's Shadow. I can't wait!

Other than Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, I liked the First Formic War series, with Earth Afire probably being my favorite.

This is how I read them as well. It does jump around a bit, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to read the series in chronological order now, to see if it changes anything for me.

I hated the remaining books in the Ender series. I found them pretty boring. I never got to Ender's Shadow, though, so I can't speak for that one.

If you're into sci-fi, I would highly recommend Issac Asimov's Foundation series. They're awesome books that are relatively short and a pretty quick read.

Adding to my book list!

Netflix:
All the Star Trek series, especially TNG and ENT
M*A*S*H
Upstairs-Downstairs 1970s version (a bit like Downton Abbey except not sheit)
Breaking Bad
An Idiot Abroad
Tons of great documentaries
Etc, etc.

Books:
The Iron Tower Trilogy
The Belgariad
Anything by George Orwell
On Call in Hell (if milmed is a thing you're interested in)
lots of others that my brain can't dredge up atm

And get lots of exercise.

Anything by Bernard Cornwell or Doris Kearns; Amazon product ASIN 0393319806

x1000 this and Sons of Anarchy are the three shows I tell people they should watch before anything else, at least if they are a dude. Women might prefer Orange is the New Black to SOA because its pretty violent. HBO GO has Thrones and The Wire another two that you should watch

I would say that the Speaker for the Dead set got too philosophical for me at some point. I definitely read them, but I only reread them a couple of times each (#rereads is how I tell how much I liked a book, other than a few exceptions which are really only single-reads because the fun is in the slow reveal).
Ender's Shadow is a close second to Ender's Game itself. I've read those two an uncountable number of times.
The rest of the Bean stuff is, imo, superior to the Speaker trilogy, but not on the same level as EG and ES. It's got a lot faster pace than the SotD stuff.

I'm going to have to agree with you about the Speaker trilogy.

Going along with all the sci-fi/fantasy:

Fantasy
Graveyard Book-Neil Gaiman: It's a children's book, but still a great read. Easy to get into.
American Gods-Neil Gaiman: A lot harder to get into than Graveyard Book, but definitely worth a read and one of my favorites. Won pretty much every sci-fi/fantasy award under the sun.
Song of Ice and Fire-George R. R. Martin: What all the Game of Thrones hype is based on. I love the show, and I think it's well done, but the books are really just something else.

Science Fiction
The Windup Girl-Paolo Bacigalupi: Science fiction dystopia type novel. And a damn good one too at that.

Other
Lolita-Vladimir Nabokov: This book is gonna make you feel pretty slimy at times, and it's not exactly light reading. But goddamn this man has the most beautiful prose out of anyone I've ever read, and I've read a lot of books.
As I Lay Dying-William Faulkner: I love American writers, so I'm really biased towards the likes of McCarthy and Faulkner. As I Lay Dying is fairly short, and is also in my opinion the best of his works. Also not really 'light' reading.
Night-Elie Wiesel: This is about as far away from light reading as you can get, but it's a very powerful narrative of a man's experience in concentration camps during World War 2. Reading this book also gives you the advantage of being able to pick up English majors.

Another vote for Dexter and Breaking Bad on Netflix. Also add in Broadchurch.

Just watched the first two episodes of True Detective.

Mind blown. I will proceed to sit myself in my cheap & old - yet extremely comfy - couch and blow throw this television series.

Only 8 episodes but man is it good. Gets better throughout too

Second season of TD is coming out this summer after Game of Thrones season 5 ends.

Also recommending Rome on HBO if you like historical action mix with politics.

Plus Marco Polo, House of Cards, Son of Anarchy, Devil Dare, and Break Bad on Netflix if you haven't checked them out.

Battlestar Galactica. The new one with Tricia Helfer on Netflix. Didn't think there could be a show better than breaking bad until I saw this one

I hate to break it to you, but...Netflix discontinued online streaming of that this Feb.
