I was wondering if anyone has found their own clinical sites for their neuro rotation that they would recommend.
My program allows us to look for our own clinicals for neuro and I have a really high number for the lottery (and will likely get stuck in a SNF for my clinical if I don't find my own). Thanks!
On a side note, is it normal for DPT programs to use SNFs as clinical sites?

I don't have any recs because we couldn't set up our own clinicals. But to answer the last question, yes. PT programs utilize all PT settings for clinicals whether that's SNF, schools, hospitals, etc. You seem surprised by this?

No worries, thanks for the response. I don't know if there are many other programs allow students to look for their own clinicals, but thought it was worth inquiring about.
I wouldn't say I'm surprised, more curious, about the prevalence of using of SNFs for neuro rotations; thanks for the info .

We were able to set up affiliations at my program, but it was more of a special case than a common-place practice. From my understanding, there is a LOT of paperwork involved for both the healthcare facility and the PT program to set up these affiliations. We were required to submit requests about a year in advance of the clinical experience, if that was what we were seeking.

At my school, we could do inpatient rehab, pediatrics, SNF, or outpatient day rehab to fulfill our neuro requirement. I am not sure whether you are specifically seeking an inpatient rehab spot, or if any of those other settings might appeal to you as well. I know people who did rotations at SNF's and they actually did enjoy them.

If you really do want to set up your own clinical, I believe that the way to start is to choose a geographic location/facility type and start researching contact info for the PT departments that match your requirement. It will be more productive for all involved if you find out whether the facility is open to new school affiliations in the first place. Some places may already be saturated by slots they consistently offer to other schools.

Thanks for the info DPT 13! I know it is a lot of paperwork involved in the process to form a new clinical connection. My program does not have as many neuro clinical affiliations as they'd like, which is why our ACCE is open to potential new connects (for ortho, the process is similar to your program's, on a case by case basis). Good to hear about SNF experiences! I am going to one for gen med, which I am looking forward to, but am trying to do neuro inpatient if I can find something.
