Hi everybody! (audible groan...Hi Dr. Nick...)

Can someone differentiate a meroanencephaly from an encephalocele for me?
Here is what I have so far, but I'm not entirely sure any of this is correct +pity+

Anencephalies:
-Holoanencephaly = brain is completely absent
-Meroanencephaly = protrusion of area cerebrovasculosa, partial formation of cranium
-Craniorachischisis = protrusion of area cerebrovasculosa + area medullovasculosa, thus rostral + caudal closure absence

Encephaloceles:
-Meningocele = herniation containing only meninges
-Meningoencephalocele = herniation contains meninges + part of brain
-Meningohydroencephalocele = herniation contains meninges, part of brain and part of ventricular system

Is the only difference the type of tissue? So in a meroanencephaly, it isn't necessarily neural tissue, while an encephalocele contains neural tissue either in the form of meninges or actual part of brain?

Hi Dr. Nick

SDN is not actually a website for getting help with your medical school homework. There are plenty of other resources for that.

Thanks
