Neuro-optometry. I was wondering if anyone can give some insight on this specialization. I know that neuro-optometrists work with patients that may have had stroke, loss of eye, brain injury etc.

Where can I find more information on this? Any what suggestions do you have for a pre-optometry student?

Worry about it in your 4th year of opt school. After neuro, it might not be so much fun anymore 🙂

Wow. I thought sciences would be thought in first 2 years?

I really liked neuroscience when I took it at my institution, so i wondered how that would work in with optometry, considering western univ. curriculum is emphasizing this specialization.

It is, we are taking it right now in our 2nd semester. But you don't really look at residencies until your 4th year.

neuroscience classes in the basic science stream and clinical neuro optometry are significantly different beasts.

Think of neuro optometry as somthing between neurology, binocular vision/strabismus and low vision/vision rehab...

IMHO, I think it laughable that Western will "emphasize" neuro optometry... There just is not enough of these patients out there in the world for a whole institution full of students to emphasize in this area.

thanks jefguth, that's what i presumed about the need for neuro-opt.
