anyone have any suggestions for helping learn neuroscience? i recall reading something about a good workbook or something of that sort, but i'm search-challenged and can't seem to find the thread...

"Neuroanatomy: A programmed Text" by Sidman and Sidman. A little dated, but really reinforces the basic concepts. Some great reviews on Amazon.

Check your school library - when I searched our catalog, I found several copies available at Ohio Institutions.
