Neurology match 2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There is one it's just called Neuro match 2020 instead of 2021

I meant a match that would help with tracking invitations' timeline of the programs like the older ones
I am not sure if there's a spreadsheet for this year's match because the one available at the moment is just for virtual events not interview invites. If anyone has an active doc for this year interviews, please share it. If not, let's do it the old way 😀

Here's the list from the older thread!

I just assigned my last LoR yesterday, should I contact the programs letting them know that my application is now complete?

My understanding is that chibucks is right that they're auto-updated, but that programs aren't notified that your app was updated. So if they already looked through it and passed you over for an incomplete app, then they won't be notified that you're now complete. So if they haven't looked yet, then you're good.

Trouble is that you won't know which program is which. If I were in your shoes, I would be emailing program letters of interest + updating them on my new LoR.

Yeah, I know they get auto-updated. The thing is like BlueBleck said, the programs mark such applications as incomplete without even reviewing them, so they "may" revisit them later. To my knowledge, some programs get notified once the application is complete. One of the programs sent me earlier that my app is incomplete and I have until OCT 31 to complete it so I can be considered. The same day I assigned the 3rd LoR, I received an email from them it's complete now and we will review it. But this is only one program:depressed:

Interesting, new information to me. I'd throw your home PD a question about it to clear all doubts.

If I am to throw my home PD a question it would be when are you planning to send me the interview invitation?😎 I got this info from my home PC🙂

Anyone know about the program UPMC in Erie, PA? Do they only take DO students or something? Majority of faculty is DO on website and there's no link for current students in their neurology residency program

Yes, it's a former DO program. And no, they should be accepting both MDs and DOs now due to the merger that happened last year. Unless they have some sort of OMM requirement for MDs which I doubt for a Neuro program.

I am supposed to be finishing my Neuro rotation at Hamot right now but I got pulled from it to quarantine after my first week when my wife caught COVID. There was no OMM happening there that I was aware of. They do have allopathic residents there. The 2 other students on with me were osteopathic students auditioning (one from LECOM, one from Campbell). A third student was military matching but was planning on going into neurology....I can't recall if he was allopathic or osteopathic to be honest.
Seems like a good program...I'm looking to match EM BTW. Dr. Phinney is one of the faculty and he's a PI doing some interesting research. Lots of strokes, fair amount of MS....because Erie.

I would like to ask another question about UPMC Pitts; how competitive are neurology and neurodevelopmental disabilities residencies ther? I totally understand it is a subjective question and I cannot get a definitive answer; however, I would appreciate a relative one like ivy, high, middle or low tier. Or as compared to other widely known specialties.

Doximity has it ranked as 33rd by reputation, so I'd say it's a fairly high to upper middle tier program.

can you please share the link for this ranking
www.doximity.com it's like a type of HIPAA protected online networking service for medical professionals including med students. It's fairly popular, so I assumed you were already familiar with it. Anyway, you can create an account and verify your credentials as a medical student to start using it. Then you can go on their residency navigator page and look up neurology programs by reputation, and it will populate the list for you.

Is it OK that my interview was not scheduled on ERAS? I received the invitation on ERAS inbox only, but scheduling was through emailing them!

I know there is a lot out there right now about the number of interviews people should be doing and if it differs from the "safe" number from previous years. Decided to see what my future (hopefully) neuro colleagues had to say about this. What number of neurology interviews do you believe is safe this year before you can start cancelling?

I'm just sticking to around what the interactive nrmp data says to match ~100% with my profile:

I'd add a couple to that number if you can. I have a few more than that because of uncertainty

With the merger, the greatly increased number of applicants per program, and the likelihood that most programs aren't interviewing more applicants per spot, my first thought is the relative value of an interview this year is greater (if not much greater) than prior years, especially for US MD grads. I think IMGs and DOs are going to get poned this year.

That said, I agree, and probably so do all the other people hoarding interviews, because it's fuzzy as heck

Possible, for sure, but anecdotally, me and my neuro classmates have started to cancel interviews. On the spreadsheet chat, low/zero II people mostly seem to be IMGs.

23X DO no red flags. Hard limit 15. At 14. Cancelled/declined 2 from 60 apps. I started to feel comfortable with 10 IIs given my app.

I'm a US-IMG. 23X, 24X. Currently at 13 neuro and 2 prelim. How many more neuro should I be hoping for before I can feel comfortable?

Don't think I have any red flags (other than being an IMG - if that is one). How many more would you say are needed with a red flag otherwise?
IMG is a mixed bag - IMG from where? England? Canada? India? The 374th ranked for-profit school in the Caribbean? If the latter or similar, then you probably want to shoot for 1.5-2x the number of invites that AMGs are shooting for.

SGU (carib). US-IMG so I don't need a visa

You're probably OK where you are coming from a well-recognized caribbean school and with pretty good step scores. Maybe take 15 to be safe, but might be overkill.
