Question for all you smart people out there...

How competitive are Neurology residencies to get? I am falling in love with the field (I'm a third year) and my school does not have a straight Neurology program, thus I am pressed for information.

Would appreciate info such as lifestyle during/after residency, avg board scores, etc...

Neurology is a four-year residency. It consists of one year of internal medicine, followed by 3 years of neuro. These are sometimes combined into one program, at other places it is necessary to match into them separately.

Neurology residency is fairly non-competitive. Perhaps it is a touch harder than IM. In the past, it has been an IMG heavy field, with pretty much all US grads able to match. It is getting a bit more competitive, but not bad. I would say an average USMLE score should be plenty for a lot of programs, with a poor score not ruling you out.

Lifestyle is variable, depending on subspecialty and academic vs private practice.
