I've noticed that it is possibly to do a neuropathology fellowship after a neurology residency. Evidently this is a three-year commitment beginning with a year of general anatomic pathology followed by two years of neuropathology.

What I'm wondering is if anyone knows a neurologist who has done this type of fellowship and what kind of career they have afterwards. Do they see general neurology patients as well as sign out neuropathology cases? It seems a little strange to me.

bump.

This is one of the career paths I'm mulling over.

The fact that no one is commenting on this post confirms my impression that no one ever really does this neuropathology fellowship after a neurology residency.

I've know a few rare people who've done this. Mostly research-oriented neuro-oncology or neuromuscular people. But none of them really become "pathologists".

Maybe post your question over in the pathology forum if you want a sense of the clinical possibilities?
