Hello!
I am starting to check out post doc opportunities in neuropsychology. Here's my question- how do people hear about / apply to good non-APPCN-match post docs? I come from a top tier grad program and internship but am not currently an active networker & don't know too many names so feel quite out of the loop.

Thanks everyone.

You hear about them by being an active networker 😀

Mine was word-of-mouth. I still interviewed at match sites, but ultimately took a postdoc before the match via networking.

Word to the wise - always be an active networker!

So to give you constructive advice, I would hit up supervisors from those top-tier programs you mentioned and start asking. It is early yet, and they can keep an eye out for you...

Networking is a big way to hear about postdocs, yep. There are simply too many out there to find out about them from any one place.

In my own search, the websites for Division 40, APPCN, and even APPIC (using the online postdoc directory) got me started. The npsych listserve also frequently posts listings, and the APA Monitor also occasionally has ads. Beyond that, and particularly for non-match sites (as Pragma mentioned), word-of-mouth is your best bet.

Edit: Forgot to mention that if your internship is at least somewhat neuro-centric, then faculty (and other interns) there could be a great resource.

If interested in adults, you could check out VAs. Some go through the match, some dont. Each site can be found on http://www.psychologytraining.va.gov/
, though not all of their brochures are up to date as of yet. Boston VA doesnt go through the match. A few other VA sites are just now being approved for funding and wont be able to go through the match.

I'm also applying this year and keeping an eye on the npsych listerv. Seems to me that a lot of sites are mid-cycle this year.

Yes that listserve, and also the AACN community listserve. npsych has more volume but the posters tend to be more mature on AACN (at least that's my opinion, the npsych listserve is full of annoying bickering that makes you wonder sometimes...) 🙄 I quit the npsych listserve because of the sheer volume of things I was not interested in.
