Neuroscience really selective?

I'm taking Neuroscience at my school as a Sophomore, and I found the class pretty hard. I studied a bit, although I would say I also crammed a lot. But what really makes me mad is that the Prof. has ridiculously high cutoffs for each grade.


I got a 91, 80, 82 and 90 on my four exams, but only ended up with a B+ in the class (having an ~86 avg)


The mean on the tests were ~73sh

To get an A, you must have gotten a 93+, and not even 5 kids got A's out of the whole class (100+).


It seem ludicrous to me, and because of that my grade has to suffer. Has anyone else found similar luck?

Pick your classes carefully, use ratemyprofessor.com or word of mouth before deciding to go with certain professors. Some just seem to hate to give out A's. Don't sweat the grade though, you're only a sophomore, so you still have some room for error.

What school do you go to? I ask because I'm taking a neuro class with four tests next semester.

yes. that is the way neuro at my school is set up and i just took it and made an A.

93 is a perfectly acceptable cut-off grade for an 'A'. If you want the grade, do the work for it and quit complaining that a professor with actual standards is "ludicrous."

Your sense of entitlement is absurd.

I'm one semester from graduating and I've never had a class where an 86 was an A... I think your response should be to either find a way to grind it out and get what it takes to earn an A, or live with the B. It's not the professor's fault - you knew what was required of you.

I hope this is a slight joke. At my school 93.00+ is an A and for example I got a 92.98 in my microbiology class and normally it round at many universities however, I received an A-. The same goes for a 89.99% receiving a B+, a .01% difference is a .7 GPA swing from a 3.3 to a 3.7 A-. That's the difference between medical school admission and rejection.... count your blessings if a 85 is an A.
