I am scheduled to shadow a neurosurgeon for clinical cases tomorrow morning. I am sorry for the "pre-medical" naive questions but I am in a bit of a predicament:

1) Are "clinicals" the same as rounding?

2) Am I supposed to wear scrubs? I was given a pair but I am not sure if they are only intended for the OR. Clinicals are inpatient.

Just don't want to stand out even more than I need to as the pre-med hiding in the corner 👍

Thanks!

I can only speak from my personal experience, but when I shadowed a surgeon, I wore scrubs whenever I was in the hospital (whether rounding or in the OR) and dressed business casual when I was in his clinic.

I'm sure s/he wouldn't mind if you asked him/her.

If you're headed to the OR then scrubs, otherwise shirt and tie.

It's always OK to wear a shirt and tie (or ladies equivalent) and bring scrubs in case you need them.

+1. Just don't wear jeans, we had a kid show up to shadow one of our surgeons in the clinic wearing jeans and tennis shoes and everyone made fun of him.
