Nevada state asking for Step scores.

In MA they want the USMLE transcript…so yeah they want scores

Yup, it didn't matter that I had saved documentation of all my scores - in order to get a MA full license, I had to obtain a official USMLE transcript in a sealed envelope directly from the FSMB for $70. Although that $70 seemed like nothing compared to the $600 for the full license, $150 for a state prescribing number, and $730 for a federal DEA...

I guess I don't understand why you're surprised by this. I doubt they care what score you got. They want proof that you passed, coming directly from the NBME. Not sure why that's surprising.

Actually Nevada does not request for "official" thing directly from FSMB since I applied online via Uniform application which is run by FSMB (private company). Interestingly on the online form there is no place to put the scores. Nevada just want me to hand write the scores on their supplemental forms. All this does not make sense if they want the proof that I passed all. At any rate, since some other states are also requesting, I feel better. Thanks everyone that replied.

By the way, do people use FSMB's state license application service, FCVS? I was about to but then read horror stories on online reviews and decided against it. Another $400 to folk over to the monopoly.

Why would you have to pay $70 to get your scores then? Are they not part of your med school transcript? I don't know about NBME, but with the NBOME, all I have to do is log into my account and all my scores are listed there.

Perhaps there is a way to look up the scores without paying. I couldn't find it. Residency has all the scores except Step 3. I could have saved the Step 3 score report free the first time it was made available online. But I didn't, thinking I won't need it ever again since I passed. I asked FSMB about it, but they said the only way to know the score is by ordering another report. Well, all costs related to licensing is reimbursed by the hiring hospital anyway; so no big deal.

I was a bit surprised that Nevada asks for step scores. This bothered me because I had to pay $70 to get all the scores (I did not save them). I thought states medical board don't care as long as you passed. What other states ask for scores? and why?

What does "USMLE" stand for . . .

Do you think . . .

One wonders . . .

Mysteries.
